Optical cable is used to build fiber-optic communication backbones and telecommunication channels and short and medium-range structured cabling systems.

Optic cable is designed to transmit information as an electromagnetic radiation signal in the optical (near-IR) range. Optic cable has many advantages over copper wires.

Fiber-optic cable has greater bandwidth and high noise immunity, namely: immunity to electromagnetic interference, low attenuation of the light signal, small volume and weight, electrical isolation of the connected devices, etc. Due to these properties, fiber-optic cables are so widely used in telecommunication networks at various levels ranging from home and corporate computer networks, to intercontinental backbones.
